I have been concerned for some time about Encanto Park. We love living near the park, and use it almost daily for dog walks. I have always been disgusted by the mess that is left after the weekends that would take the staff all day Monday to clean up, rather than spend their time on more important projects. The wooden footbridge has been in disrepair for years, and it does not appear that it will move to the top of the priority list anytime soon. I would love to assemble a group of volunteers and get the materials to rebuild it. On another subject, a neighbor once remarked that we are fortunate that "we don't have much graffiti at the park." Well guess what... my husband has been on "graffiti patrol" for several years on his own. He usually goes on his bicycle on Sunday mornings with his anti-graffiti kit: graffiti remover, assorted cans of paint-- yellow, green, tan-- and covers it up. He figures that if he leaves it there the next group will come in and tag over it, and so on. It is clear that the city does not have the money or the manpower to spend on this; Rob has decided that it matters enough to him that he is willing do what he can to keep it to a minimum. I am willing to volunteer to help with park projects as well.
